David Thomas

Dave is a writer, performer and recording artist. A lifetime of experience has enhanced his natural talents as a guitarist and singer. Today, whether in the close up and personal environment of a small venue as a solo artist, in concert or on the big stage of a theatre or festival in front of his big band, a performance by Dave Thomas is something special.
Dave grew up during the 1960s blues boom and played in some very insalubrious joints in the docks of Newport, his home town in South Wales. At age 18 he was asked to join the seminal progressive rock band Blonde On Blonde. During the next three years he toured all over the UK and recorded a single and two albums. These albums have recently been reissued on the Esoteric label, part of Cherry Red records. Some particular highlights of Dave’s career have included being supported by Fleetwood Mac, an appearance at Knebworth Greenbelt Festival where he sang to an audience of 25,000 people and being invited to perform at a special show commemorating Buddy Holly at The Texas Embassy for Paul McCartney In recent years he has built an international reputation as a fine blues guitarist and singer and has worked with his own band and with The Paul Jones Blues Band. For 10 years he led the house band at Shake Down Blues, a specialist promoter of black American blues in the UK. During this period he worked with 40 great black American blues musicians. He continues to work in blues and in rock. Right now he is recording with the great keyboard wizard Dave Greenslade (of Jon Hiseman’s Colosseum and his own band Greenslade) creating a brand new album of jointly penned original songs. He is also working on two other new albums which are scheduled for release in 2020. Dave also runs a regular blues club and organises festivals under the Fine City Blues banner.
